One of the oldest stories in literature gets a phenomenal silver-screen treatment. Homer's "Odyssey" has been riveting readers for thousands of years. It still excites readers; this film shows that. Christopher Nolan's juggernaut film adaptation is one of the best films not just of the year, but of his filmography. The sets, cast, action, and score make this film truly outstanding.
Nolan's treatment of this timeless Greek epic is exciting, action-packed, and surprising, with a dash of horror. Anchored by Matt Damon's portrayal of Odysseus, this film is unlike any other. Starring alongside him are Anne Hathaway as Penelope, the wife of Odysseus; Tom Holland as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope; Charlize Theron, who plays Calypso; Samantha Morton as Circe; Robert Pattinson as Antinous; and Zendaya as Athena. This cast truly is stacked. In its almost three-hour runtime, it is a massive scale of a film.
Reuniting with composer Ludwig Göransson, who previously scored "Oppenheimer" and "Tenet," returns with this film. The score crafted is haunting, upbeat, with unease. The score complements this film in marvelous fashion. No doubt, this score is the best of the year.
For thousands of years, this story has entertained readers from all over the world. One of the world's most captivating stories gets a long-overdue film that actually sticks to the source material and carries on its legacy.
