Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

For over 40 years, it has captivated the world, cinema, and pop culture. Two trilogies and now a third one has concluded. In 2015, the “Star Wars” phenomenon returned with the third trio of films. 4 years later the third trilogy has concluded. This new trilogy was the continuation of the Skywalker story and now ends the iconic story. It may not be the best that the series has to offer, but it sure is better than 2017’s “The Last Jedi”.

Episode VIII was utterly horrendous, but this film is a much more satisfying entry into the franchise. It is a wonderful end to this third trilogy and is an exciting finale to the original story which has spanned for four decades. Episode VIII lacked severely in being a fun and entertaining film. This film was able to make up for the previous installment’s errors, in an extraordinary fashion.

Legendary director J.J Abrams returns to the series. He previously directed the first installment in this trilogy, 2015’s “The Force Awakens”. That film was a nostalgic treasure for all fans and brought us to love our favorite characters all over again. Abrams concludes this trilogy in such a way that satisfies fans and honors the late Carrie Fisher, with this being her last appearance. Through stunning visuals and your typical action sequences thrust into the film, this is another job well done for Abrams.

Returning once more are Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac. All of them give some of the best performances in this set of films. Despite the lack of narrative quality, they are still able to make the film as entertaining as it should be. This film also sees the return of iconic character Emperor Palpatine, played once again by Ian McDiarmid. He is one of the most exciting parts of the film because it brings fans to be more nostalgic than ever.

Giving his last hurrah at the iconic franchise is composer John Williams. Williams has scored every single film in the franchise minus the spin-off films and the Disney+ series. He’s been creating iconic scores for this franchise since the beginning. He returns in an epic and glorious fashion once more. He does yet another great job at creating enchanting sounds that I have no doubt will remain iconic just like the rest of his work throughout the franchise.

The time has come, and now it is here. The end of one of the cinemas' most beloved stories. This franchise phenomenon has created a mega fanbase and cult following. It will remain an iconic staple in cinema and pop culture for years to come. This film shows that this franchise will continue to remain entertaining for fans of all kinds.

Ford V. Ferrari (2019)

If you aren’t a fan of car racing, you will be after this film. This film is filled with so much action and full-throttle fun throughout the entire film. This is a film that race car fans and nonfans alike will enjoy. It has something for everyone, whether you are a fan of racecars or not. It has a lot of humor to go right along with the rest of the film, which works very well. If there is one race car film that benefits from being both action-packed and inciteful, it is this film. I have no doubt that this film will excite fans of race cars and those that aren’t fans.

Director James Mangold, “Logan”, crafts an undeniably entertaining film. Mangold makes this film as entertaining as possible, it works. He makes this film in a heartfelt, humorous and action-packed way. This film benefits in being very entertaining because of the action sequences and the story itself. Mangold has created something unique and special. This is an achievement on all fronts.

The film stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale. Their chemistry is very dynamic and powerful, and it shows. The two are a powerhouse that brings all to the film. The performances they give are nothing but excited and spontaneously magnetic.

Like in real life, Bale’s character is reminiscent of his actual personality, which is tough and bossy. Yet, in this film, he manages to be the film's comedic relief. While, Damon on the other hand, is more serious and emotional in the film. Co-starring is “Outlanders” Caitriona Balfe. Balfe is Bale’s on-screen wife. She is the glue that binds the main characters together and she is just as important as the rest of them in this film.

A frequent collaborator with Mangold, composing the race car film score, is Marco Beltrami. Beltrami reunites with Mangold in this fun and action-packed film. His score is as fast-paced and upbeat as the film itself. Beltrami makes the score as exciting and exuberant as the film overall and it fits into the film wonderfully.

Ready. Set. Go! If you aren’t a fan of this going into the film, you will be after it is over. Those who are fans will find this film equally entertaining just like those who aren’t fans of racecars. This film is a fast-paced, exciting tale of a rivalry that spanned for years. I have no doubt this film will continue to be successful going into awards season but also a successful racecar film.

Midway (2019)

One of the best things about war films is that they tell the accounts of what happened. Historical war films like Full Metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan, Hacksaw Ridge and Dunkirk are some of the best war films ever made. The passion, authenticity, and heart are what drove those films.
Though the film is dazzling and historically significant, it is over the top when it comes to the special effects. This war film is one of a kind, but it seldom achieves what other films of this nature have accomplished.

Like other war films, this film is another solidly entertaining war epic. History enthusiasts such as I, really appreciate films like this because they are emotionally enriching and stay true to the source material.

Acclaimed director Roland Emmerich makes a film that is good at capturing the rawness of war and the emotional impact of it. But, its reliance on the war CGI is not caused by excitement. This makes the film overloaded with just the visuals, which may be compelling, but not overly thrilling.

Starring in the film, is Patrick Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Nick Jonas. All three do an outstanding job of playing their real-life roles. They bring a lot to the film. It shows dramatically. Each of them does a great job of trying to bring to life the heroics of this courageous battle. Their performances are genuinely passionate and bring to life the war in stunning fashion, even if it’s a bit overdramatic.

Scoring the film is Thomas Wander. He does a great job of keeping the film entertaining. The score is just as dramatic as the film itself. It’s cross between an electronic score and a classy upbeat score. It keeps the film enjoyable to the highest levels.

Historically based films are a treasure. Some are very successful films, while others may not be. While this film is enjoyable, it is very reliant on the film’s visuals and not the story overall. This film is a good film, but it just fails to impress and be as memorable as other war films.

Richard Jewell (2019)

It is perhaps one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in the history of our country. The Richard Jewell saga was perhaps the biggest libel and slander tale of the last century. On one fateful evening in July 1996, the Olympics were being held in Atlanta, Georgia, and mayhem struck. A pipe-bomb filled with shrapnel exploded in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park. The tragedy killed two people and injured nearly 100 others.

What followed the attack, was chaos and the besmirching of the hero security guard at the venue, Richard Jewell. 23 years later, acclaimed director and Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood makes an extraordinary film based on the whole ordeal.

It is the single best film of the year. Clint Eastwood makes a film that should anger the entire country. This film does a remarkable job of showcasing the entire event of the attack and the aftermath, domino effect that soon followed. Eastwood's raw and gripping approach is sincere. This is as dramatic as it really was. It shows throughout the film.

This event directly affected my family. My mom was a volunteer at the Olympics but was not impacted by the attack. After watching this film, I was angry at our government and those investigating Richard Jewell. Everyone should be rightfully angry at this whole thing.

The timeliness of this film is so necessary. It couldn’t be more relevant to today’s political circus. It shows the contrast between both Richard Jewell’s story and now President Trump. It should enrage every American and make them feel just as angry as I am.

The film's cast is phenomenal and shattered expectations on all fronts. Playing the title hero is Paul-Walter Hauser, who is best known for “Blackkklansman” & I, Tonya”. Hauser is an uncanny doppelganger to Richard Jewell. His portrayal of Jewell is groundbreaking, emotionally gripping and powerful.

Alongside Hauser, are Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Olivia Wilde and Jon Hamm. Rockwell especially stands out along Hauser as his friend and lawyer, Watson Bryant. Rockwell’s performance is as gripping as Hauser’s. The chemistry between the two actors is striking. Kathy Bates plays Jewell’s mother. She does a phenomenal job at the role and it’s as gripping as the rest of the cast.

Twenty-three years ago, one mans life changed forever. The name Richard Jewell will ever be etched into the minds of millions and has been ever since that fateful night in Atlanta. He died 11 years later. This film is magnificent and thrilling to its core. It is a brilliant take on a very disgusting and despicable miscarriage of justice and Clint Eastwood and the cast have done an incredibly amazing job telling this emotionally charged story that will live on forever.

Jojo Rabbit (2019)

This anti-hate satire film is the next film by indie film director Taika Waititi. Based on the novel “Caging Skies “, comes a film adaptation that is ironically humorous and surprisingly emotionally heartfelt. Back in 2017, the world first saw the genius work of director Taika Waititi with Thor: Ragnarök. This new film is bonkers in all the right ways.

Films with these types of touchy subjects tend to be mediocre in nature and not successful. This film manages to tackle sensitive subjects and turn it into comedy without being dull or offensive. It is one of the year's most memorable films as far as story and performances are concerned.

With an all-star cast lead by director Taika Waititi himself as an alternative version of Hitler who is the title character’s “imaginary friend”. Newcomer Roman Griffin-Davis plays the title character in a heartwarming and genuinely charming. He stars alongside Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Thomasin McKenzie. Their performances are as memorable and genuinely heartfelt as the lead role.

This film has the essence of a Quentin Tarantino film. For anyone who has seen one of Tarantino’s films knows that somewhere in the film it will have Nazis and Swastikas for a comedic purpose. Well, this film does that same thing. It works to the best of its ability to not be like a Tarantino film exactly, but it has similar elements that like his films.

Highly renowned film composer Michael Giacchino scores this funny and emotional film. He crafts a score that is hearty and fun which keeps the film alive. It is as entertaining as the film itself, which keeps the film more balanced altogether.

It’s weird, unexpectedly charming and fun. One of this year’s most absurdly hilarious films. This film is unique and original in every sense of the word. The beauty of the film doesn’t go unnoticed and that is true says something special about the film and Waititi’s vision of the film. It may go a little over the top but that doesn’t mean that this film is worth skipping. This film is worth the watch given its satirical take on some of the histories most sensitive times.

Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

If there’s one thing that most sci-fi films have in common, are robots. Some films are dedicated to just robots and others are dedicated to space. With the classic Terminator films, they are dedicated to robots and the extinction of humanity. Now, with this latest installment, things get more exciting. Prior installments to the franchise, such as “GENESYS and Salvation” were mediocre in the storytelling and lacked originality.

This direct sequel to the 1991 sequel “Judgement Day”, is as thrilling, even if more than the predecessor. This film has what fans of this franchise expect, and that is exciting action sequences and a riveting story. This is yet another exciting and thrilling entry into the saga.

Original director James Cameron returns, this time as a producer. Director of Deadpool, Tim Miller, makes a triumphant action-packed entry into the series. What Cameron & Miller manage to do with this film, is to deliver a great film that supersedes all the rubbish of the prior sequels I mentioned earlier. This film is much more exciting and compelling than the two sequels that came before it. It has much more action and thrill factors because it stays on course with the 1991 sequel.

Despite all the positives, there is one thing that annoyed me. The film starts off slow and begins the first 10 minutes with subtitles. This slows down the film a little bit, but this doesn’t make the film terrible at all.

They’re back! Original stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger reunite for the first time since 1991’s Judgement Day. They’re as action-packed and dynamic as ever! The two shine once more by delivering the best performances in the franchise to date. Starring alongside the legendary duo is Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes. Offering some fresh new faces, they are as exciting as the legendary duo. The two are a good addition to the franchise.

This film not only has top-notch action sequences, but it also has an amazing score. Scoring the film is Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL. His score is energetic and fast-paced. Holkenborg also puts his own unique spin on the iconic theme which makes the film even more entertaining.

It has been one of the most iconic film series for over 35 years. Now, with a direct sequel to the second film, the franchise has once again regained the momentum that it so desperately needs. The Terminator films are one of the best sci-fi series to date. This new film shows that off in extraordinary fashion. Fans of the original films will love this film in all its splendor and gargantuan qualities.

Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)

It has been 10 years since we last saw our favorite ragtag group of zombie-slayers. It has since become a cult-classic and one of the very few satisfying horror-comedy films. The zombie film phenomenon has been a thing for a long time now, with these films on the rise, it’s only a matter of time when they get old. But, in this case, that is not true. This film is wild, gory and insane which is why people love the films.

The writers behind the first film and Deadpool bring audiences back to Zombieland. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick return with a funny as hell film that is even better than the sequel. They are clever and witty in their approach at their return to the franchise. Alongside the writing duo, is returning director Ruben Fleischer. Fleischer returns with yet another hilarious film. Gory and a bloody good time, this film tops the first one by a longshot.

This film wouldn’t be back to where the first film was without this amazing cast. Lead once again by Jesse Eisenberg, he is as quirky as ever in this sequel. Alongside him once again are Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. They are all as goofy as ever in this sequel. This cast is fun and exciting in the whole film, which makes this film even more entertaining.

The film also sees newcomers to the series, Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch. They’re just as goofy and entertaining as the rest of the cast. These new additions to the cast, are just as hilarious as the rest of the ensemble.

Just like the first film, this film is undeniably gory but in a very comedic way. The action sequences are much more action-packed and exciting, improving even more than the first film. It is hilarious throughout the entire film.

Returning to score the film, is David Sardy. The score as a western-country style vibe to it. With the sounds of bluegrass and soul, the score is a great addition to the film overall.

With this year not having a whole lot of comedic films released, this film is oe of the funniest films yet. Ten years it’s been since we first took a trip to Zombieland. And here we are ten years later, with a highly anticipated sequel. Audiences can expect nothing less of a film that has an extensive number of fans. This film has the same type of gore, humor and fun as the first film, but tops it on a much larger scale, which is why fans will see this sequel to a cult classic phenomenon.

Gemini Man (2019)

One of the things that can make a sci-fi film great, are not only the stunning visuals that it may have, but also a compelling story. To this day, countless sci-fi films have been made. Some have been great ones, while others have been average and just downright boring sci-fi films. This film is another one of those sci-fi films that is worth watching but it does tend to be over the top and overly dramatic for its craft.

The thing about sci-fi movies, is that they all have something in common with one another. Whether that be eye-popping visual effects or exciting action sequences, sci-fi films are arguably one of the most stunning and mesmerizing. But given those attributes, some sci-fi films go over the top. This new Will Smith film does exactly that.

You think with big stars and directors a film would succeed, but not in this case. It does a seldom job at thoroughly entertaining. This film helmed by acclaimed director Ang Lee is imaginative but slow. What goes on in the film seems a bit dull with an intriguing story, but it just doesn’t match up with the rest of sci-fi films because of its mediocrity.  Lee does a great job at crafting the action sequences and eye-popping visuals, yet the film seems a little to cliché with a been there, done that approach as far as sci-fi films are concerned.

Will Smith stars in what might be one of his better roles, even though the film may seem dull at times or to dramatic and near sighted, this film is worth watching just for its exciting action sequences and visuals. Alongside Smith, is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, “Sky High”. She brings a balance to the film that is compatible with her leading co-star.

Acclaimed composer Lorne Balfe scores this sci-fi action film. Balfe adds a riveting score to the film to where it blends well into the film overall. This score is as upbeat and intense as the film itself. With the film being somewhat of a slow work of sci-fi cinema, this films score compensates for that quality.

Like I said, this is one of Will Smiths better roles we’ve seen him in lately. Smith was able to achieve yet another sci-fi film while being an integral part of it. I don’t think that this is my favorite Will Smith film at all, because this film missed so many opportunities to be successful.

The sci-fi genre is one of my favorite kind of films. With that in mind, it’s disappointing that a film with such potential to be a good sci-fi film, just ignores all and just makes it up as it goes on. This year hasn’t really seen much of sci-fi films. But that doesn’t mean that there are a few here and there. With Will Smith making sci-fi films part of him, this film is just overall a bleak and downright let down- even if the film is thoroughly entertaining.

Joker (2019)

When it was first announced that a film would be made on the iconic “Joker” and serve as a backstory, I was annoyed. For one, because Heath Ledger’s masterful performance as the character in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight”, was and still is the single greatest portrayal of the iconic villain. My negative thoughts on this new film completely changed when this film took me by utter surprise. This film is stunning to the highest level. What this film manages to do so masterfully is pull off the most in-depth character study in all of comic book films.

This film from start to finish is simply eerily mesmerizing. It is unlike any other comic book-based film because this film is one of the darkest most foreboding film in the comic book film genre. The film not only is an in-depth character study, it is an impressive and grim look at the psychology of the title character.

Director Todd Phillips crafts one hell of a film. His vision for the film is bold and shocking to say the least. It is a groundbreaking film achievement in comic book cinema. This film is a dark and dedicated film that shows us how the “Joker” came to be. Phillips outdoes himself and shows his true visionary capabilities.

All I can say is wow! Joaquin Phoenix pulls off the impossible by exceeding expectations. He would’ve certainly made Heath Ledger proud. There are two big differences between Ledgers and Phoenix’s portrayal of the iconic character. Ledger’s was more on the hellbent on chaos and a new world order based on anarchy. On the other hand, Phoenix makes a performance that is as psychologically twisted but more on the mental breakdown of the character.

Composer ‎Hildur Guðnadóttir crafts a haunting and eerie score for a film that is as haunting as the film itself. He makes the film more haunting and darker as possible and it shows all throughout the film with the cello solos making the film more gripping. Though the score isn’t as haunting as Hans Zimmer & James Newton-Howard’s craft of “The Dark Knight”, this film score acts yet another haunting sound that is perfect for this film.

Though this film is almost perfect, the film starts a little slow with some pacing issues and progression throughout. It does make up with its dark comedy and action sequences, along with the score.

One of “Batman’s” most iconic foes, finally gets his silver screen origin story of his very own. What makes as a fantastic film, it sets the stage as a landmark achievement in comic book cinema. I have no doubt that this film and Joaquín Phoenix’s take on the “Joker” will be memorable for years to come.

It: Chapter 2 (2019)

Following the success of the 2017 remake of the horrifying best-selling Stephen King novel “IT”, comes part two of the story and a much more thrilling and horrifying installment. This film is one of the longer films in the horror genre that drags on quite awhile before things get interesting and more entertaining.Though the film is longer than expected and slow at times, this sequel is better than 2017’s “It Chapter One”, in that it is more horrifying and suspenseful. The film is without a doubt one of the best horror films of the year so far and it shows.

Director Andy Muschietti returns to make audiences even more frightened than ever before. He tuns it up a notch and delivers an even bigger scare factor than the films predecessor. It is bold, big and heartfelt. What Muschietti manages to do here is make a bigger more thrilling film. The dialogue is strong, and the cast delivers with strong emotion. It’s driven by a force of power that possesses the entire film.

The grown “Losers” are played by an impeccably chosen cast. Leading the charge to defeat “IT” once and for all are: James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader. They deliver some of the best performances of the year and with heart and passion, they succeed. On top of their performances, returning to terrify audiences once again as the title character, Bill Skarsgard does it again even more terrifying and sadistic than in the first film.

Returning composer Benjamin Wallfisch makes yet another thrilling and chilling score. Just like the first film, Wallfisch makes the film even more terrifying and haunting than before.

One of the best parts of this film is that it’s hilarious and that is partially due to Bill Hader’s role as “Loser” Richie. He pulls off one of and if not the best role in any film he’s been in ever. It’s a standout performance and no doubt memorable.  Skarsgard’s go-round once again as the terrifying Clown, is also a standout and extremely hilarious on top of the scare factor with the character.

Despite the slow pace and the massive runtime of 2 hours and 50 minutes, the film is still enjoyable. The film bounces back to where the film isn’t too overblown with uselessness that just is there to fill the film to enhance the film overall.

It’s perhaps one of the most legendary of horror films, let alone novels with classic villains. Though it is better than the first one and the original 1990 miniseries, this film is just another entertaining film for fans of Stephen King, his bestselling novel and horror films alike.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019)

It’s one of the worst genres of films to ever exist… the video game genre. Most of, if not all the video game-based films have been downright awful and should never be watched. But what’s surprising is that one video game-based film franchise is entertaining and worth watching. Based off the mega-popular mobile app game “Angry Birds” comes a sequel to the 2016 film based on the game. Like the first film, this sequel is fun, hilarious and action-packed.

It has something for both adults and kids alike. Both this film and its predecessor are entertaining, but this film is better than the first one because it has more humor, heart and action than the first one. This film is an unlikely surprise in a positive way. It will no doubt be regarded as one of the best animated films of the year.

The film’s voice cast is without a doubt a great one. With returning cast members: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Danny McBride playing the main characters and famous birds, (Red, the yellow bird, named Chuck and Bomb). They are one funny trio of actors that bring laughs to the audience so seamlessly effortless.

Alongside the main cast are Leslie Jones “Saturday Night Live”, Maya Rudolph “Bridesmaids”, Bill Hader “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and Peter Dinklage “Game of Thrones”. As if this film couldn’t have a better lineup of comedic actors that are a joy in this film and bring their talents in full swing. Each and everyone of the actors give exciting performances that are beyond fun.

Making his debut, director Thurop Van Orman, swings his way into the film by crafting a stunning and beautifully executed film. It’s even more beautiful than the first film by a long shot. The film is also very funny. It’s more hilarious than the first film. It has humor that appeals to kids and adults alike. It’s creative, unique and clever beyond imagination.

Returning to compose the score is Heitor Pereira “Despicable Me”. Pereira crafts another bubbly and upbeat and overall joyous score. What he manages to do is blend the score well into the film where it’s as happy and exciting as the film itself. Pereira also manages to put a new spin on the theme music from the game, which is exciting to hear.

Though the video game film genre has some serious issues, this film and the 2016 original are a step in the right direction for video game-based movies. The “Angry Birds” films have a uniqueness to them that is truly special and something to witness. Though it’s far from being held to the same standards as a “Disney” film, or some other animated studios film, this film is by far an underdog that is filled with lots of surprises for everyone.

Good Boys (2019)

If there is anyone film this year that is as hilarious as it's story, it would be this film. So far this year, not a lot of comedic films have been released. This film is the first this year that goes above and beyond to achieve laughs and hilarity that is genuinely satisfying. One of the best parts about this film is that it stands out from other films in regards to comedy. The laughs are genuine, the tween stars and heart in this film are wonderful and unique in its own right.

This Seth Rogen produced film is absolutely hysterical and there's no film this year that could possibly be as funny and unpredictable as this film. You can't help but relate to the tween trio in this film because of their talents and being able to perfectly execute all of the films jokes and comedic jabs and gags.

Director Gene Stupinsky crafts an amazingly hilarious film with heart, friendship and essentially a relatable film about the joys and terrors of growing up. It's beyond colorful in it's jokes and it's about time a film came out this year or this decade as a matter of fact, that is as funny as its plot. It's side-splitting gut reactions will have you laughing for the entirety of the film.

As if this film couldn't be anymore adorable, this film has a trio of up and coming child stars who charm their way through the film. The chemistry between them is astounding, even for a kid lead R-rated comedy. Their performances are one of the best and quite rare in any comedic film. When was the last time that a film was able to pull off having an adult comedy film with kids? Let this be the first.

Conducting the films score is Lyle Workman. Workman creates an upbeat, smooth and fast plethora of sound that keeps the film and our tween stars on their toes. It's just as energetic as the film itself.

This film's heartfelt moments and touching sentiments are worth noting, but this film also offers a genuine lesson in that you can never be too young or old to have a good time. It also shares that friendships are special and that growing up isn't such a pain.

If there's one film this year that is undeniably charming and hilarious, it's this film. What makes this film better than some other average comedic film, is that this film balances all of it's elements together that satisfies audiences. This film is a can't miss unique and laugh out loud sweet treat that is a rarity to find these days.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

The "Fast and Furious" franchise has not once appealed to me as far as action-films go, but this spinoff of the franchise is one hell of an entertaining film. It surpassed any doubts I had going into it, even though I didn't really see this film as worth watching. This film is fun, action-packed and very funny. Unexpectedly, this film did the impossible, which was entertain those moviegoers that aren't fans of the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

Director of "Deadpool 2"  David Leitch, takes the wheel in this action-packed film, which is the first spinoff in the "Fast and Furious" films. Leitch has another entertaining film under his belt. He makes this film as action-packed and exciting as possible, which shows to the highest of levels. High octance leveled action fills this film from start to finish and I think that Leitch completely nails it. The humor is also pretty funny. It is mainly due to stars Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnsons undeniable chemistry.

Yeah granted that Johnson and Statham are what make this film utterly enjoyable, but it's Vanessa Kirby who steals the show. Kirby is the one who makes this film utterly enjoyable. She makes saving the world badass and sexy. She is just as important, maybe even more important as a standout than its leading stars.

The films baddie is a meta-human with enhanced abilities played by Idris Elba. He pulls off one of the coolest bad guys in a movie this year and it's very telling. On top of adding to the action sequences he pulls off, is the comedic aspects of his character that really won me over.

Scoring the action-packed film is Tyler Bates, who previously teamed up with Leitch for "Deadpool 2". Bates crafts a score that is just as exciting and energetic as the film itself.

I'm not going to spoil the film, but all that to say is that there are two appearances by some of your favorite funny guys. As to who they are, you'll just have to watch and find out for yourself.

I have not once seen any of the films in the franchise, but does this film count? You bet it does. This film is unique, fast-paced and a thrilling ride of entertainment. So, for fans of the franchise or those new to the franchise, this film should satisfy both parties. If you like action films with car chases, then you're going to like this film.

Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)

It's one of the most absurdly entertaining films of the year so far. If you have been a Quentin Tarantino fan from the beginning or recently like me, you will be undoubtedly entertained watching this film. It is as wild and weird (in a good way) as you'd expect from a Tarantino flick. One of the most unique characteristics of some of his work is that it's unique, witty, action-packed and funny. This film shows all of those qualities in extraordinary fashion. If there is one film this year that is as wild as it is glorious, it's this film.

Films that are based on real life have big shoes to fill because they have a responsibility to try and accurately depict true stories, in which their film is based on. It's one of my favorite genres of films and I love that this film, which embellishes the actuality of the events that this film is based on, it's one of the best true story films ever made.

Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino makes another absurdly wild and funny film. Though Tarantino starts the film off in a weird and slow way, the film picks up from that point on and redeems itself. His talent for writing and creating a story that is as riveting the film itself. On top of the films crazy but true story are the action sequences, setting in 1969 Los Angeles, and the actors, is the utter beauty that this film is.

2019 is the year of scene stealing animals. First we saw "Goose" in "Captain Marvel", now we see the scene stealing "Brandy". One of the most memorable parts of this film is this unexpectedly dangerous yet cute Dog. He is the antithesis of scene-stealer and it's pretty clear.

This film has an unforgettable cast. Legendary actors Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio team up in this "buddy-comedy" and their chemistry is magnificent and one of the best in any movie this year. Their chemistry is one that is charming, feisty and original and that is evidently shown in this film. Alongside Pitt & DiCaprio is Margot Robbie. Robbie plays actress and Manson Family murder victim Sharon Tate. Robbie is a sensational part of this film and she is as important in this film as the leading men.

One of the funniest parts of the film are its bloody and disturbing action sequences and a Bruce Lee fight scene with Brad Pitt's character. I enjoyed these parts very much because they were unique and funny to the highest degree of insanity.

The film does not have a traditional score but the plethora of music from the 1960's suffices as a fun and exciting replacement. Not only does the film have music from that decade to set the mood for the film, but also commercials and drive ins that make the film even more nostalgic.

Though this film isn't your typical film, it's conventionally brilliant and is one unique film. With it's amazing setting, undeniable chemistry between its actors, and the films story this film is one unique film for the ages. What also makes this film standout from others is the twist of events that changes the events actuality in which they occured is unusual but very cool. So, if you enjoy action-comedies or just Tarantino's movies, you're in for a wild and trippy ride.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

*If you haven't seen "Endgame", don't read this review till you see it. This film takes place right after it and it's a huge spoiler if you just watch this instead of watching "Endgame". Don't say I didn't warn ya. Minor Spoilers. Read at your own risk.

When I first saw Tom Holland as "Spider-Man" in the brief minutes in the third installment of "Captain America", I couldn't believe how authentic and fresh his performance was. I was wanting more after seeing him for the first time. Now, fast-forward to the first film of his very own, 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming". This film gave audiences a much more in depth take on the web-
slinging hero we all know and love.

The sequel to "Homecoming", is much more action-packed, a dazzling spectacle than the first one. This film tops all other "Spider-Man" films before this because it has more to offer fans and more than "Homecoming". It's a fun and thrilling conclusion to the collectively known trove of Marvel films as the "Infinity Saga".

I can't think of anyone more suited to direct a "Spider-Man" none other than returning from the film's first installment, Jon Watts. I had never heard of Watts before "Homecoming", but now, he's a director that is truly a gifted talent at crafting films like these two films. With this sequel, he does so much more than the first film. He crafts another delightfully entertaining film, but it has more than what "Homecoming" did.

On top of finding a director that has proven to be very skilled and well suited for the job, "Marvel" found a great actor that plays the web-slinger in a way that is unlike any other actor before him, Tom Holland, to play the web-slinging hero. Holland is no exception. He is truly a unique and fun "Spider-Man".

Alongside Holland, are returning cast members: Zendaya, who plays "Michelle aka MJ" and Jacob Batalon, who plays Peter's best friend Ned. Zendaya and Batalon are as joyous and likeable as ever. They are just as enjoyable and fun as Holland and that goes without saying. Newcomer to the "MCU" is Jake Gyllenhaal as "Quentin Beck aka Mysterio." Gyllenhaal, like Michael Keaton in the first film, is another fantastic villain and another great addition to the "MCU". He adds originality, a great chemistry between the characters and perspective that is all the more entertaining.

We also get to see the return of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smolders). Though they aren't really an integral part of this movie they still appear in the film just as viberant and mission oriented as ever.

Making another appearance in the "Spider-Man" films is Jon Faverau as Happy Hogan, Tony Starks' best friend and security guard- or former. Favreau is as charming as ever with his character, especially with standout moments with Holland and Peter Parker's aunt May (Played once again by Marisa Tomei.)

Once again returning to score the new film, is Michael Giacchino. Giacchino first came to the "Marvel" scene with "Homecoming". He adds another great score that is a viberant and jazzy as it keeps the film very much alive.

Being set in a "post-snap" world, this film answers all questions we've had since "Endgame". This sequel is not only one of the best "Marvel" sequels, it's one of the best "Spider-Man" movies, period. This is definitely a must see if you're a fan of the "Superhero" film genre and whether you don't prefer "Marvel" or you prefer the rival "DC Comics' Extended Universe".

Toy Story 4 (2019)

It's been 9 years since the 3rd and presumably final chapter in the "Toy Story" series nearly broke all of us emotionally. Now after much disagreement to make another film, the film is here and it is truly an end of an era. The 3rd film ended things on a high note- or so we all thought. This 4th and for sure final chapter is also a heart breaker and a crowd pleaser. This film may not be as emotional as the 3rd one but it's a delight for fans who've been with Woody & Buzz and the rest of the gang of toys all these years.

Director Josh Cooley makes a name for himself as this film is a joyful and entertaining sight to behold. The cleverness and genuine fresh and overall sense of closure is satisfying to see. The films story may not be as emotionally gripping as the third installment but it's still a good and pleasing one.

Returning one last time to voice our favorite characters are: Tom Hanks & Tim Allen plus newcomers to the film series Keanu Reeves, Tony Hale Key and Peele. This films cast couldn't be any less than amazing & delightful even if it so desired. They all do another outstanding job at once again proving to us that these characters have had a childhood impact on everyone of us young enough to remember our first time seeing them on the big screen or even perhaps owning a Buzz and Woody as a kid.

Not only do we get some fresh new characters, but we also get the return of Bo Peep and her sheep. Bo Peep, voiced again by Annie Potts, is a standout in this film and also quite a leader. Seeing her back is surprising and joyful because we haven't seen her since "Toy Story 2" in 1999.

Though I did gripe at the fact that a fourth installment was made due to the success of the third film, I thought that the 3rd film was an excellent conclusion to the franchise. After seeing this film, I unfortunately can say that the third one is still my favorite. Yeah, this film is indeed truly the end (or so lets hope), it may not be as emotional as the third film.

Returning to compose the score is veteran "Pixar" composer Randy Newman. Newman who is not shy to this franchise, crafts yet another beautifully sounding composition that resonates well with the film so eloquently.

Not only does this film have amazing visuals and story, it also has some life lesson and commentary about life. It uses the characters and script to tell audiences that life is essentially meant for exploration of the world. It's something nice and not too preachy.

With audiences still reeling 9 years after the emotionally gripping third installment, this installment may not top that one, but is as cheery and delight as the films previous installments. The film sure does do a great job at entertaining its audiences with one spectacular and delightful finale.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019)

Films that have stories surrounding animals aren't anything new. It seems like we get an animated film centering around animals every other year or so. From the studio that brought us "Despicable Me", comes the second "Secret Life of Pets". This film is just as delightful as the first film, but it does get a little over the top sometimes and it's too much handle. All that to say, this film is good, but lacks the potential to be better.

I feel like I've already seen movies like this. Movies like "All Dogs Go To Heaven" & "Zootopia" have set the standard for animal based films, but this film tries to top all others but barely succeeds in doing that. It's an okay film frankly. Being based on animals, you'd think the filmmakers would have more to showcase it's primarily young audience.

Director Chris Renaud tries to top the first film by adding a new story, when it's really not. It's the same as the first one but with more characters and lively sets. I give him props however at least for trying to improve upon the first film. But ultimately, the only thing that this film improved was the animal based action and that's about it.

Not even the voice cast could save this film. With big name talents like: Patton Oswalt, Kevin Hart & Eric Stonestreet, you think this film would be even funnier than the first film but I was wrong. They only bring the same energy from the first film. Even with the voice talent of Harrison Ford, this film still lacks depth.

One of the other few positives of this film is the score. With Alexandre Desplat returning from the original film to bring yet another film a upbeat and jazzy composition. Desplat crafts the score where it balances well into the film overall.

This film may be all cute and adorable, but it's kind of messy around the edges. This film is another entertaining film, mostly for its young audience. Parents and older audiences might want to skip this movie. Though it had potential, it doesn't offer any new and fresh ideas that are worth seeing.

Men In Black: International (2019)

One generation had the "Ghostbusters", the other has "Men In Black". Both franchises have been very successful but this new addition to the "MIB" films has received overwhelmingly negative attention. Granted that this film is a "reboot" of the Will Smith led films and doesn't have either him or Tommy-Lee Jones in it, this film is still an entertaining film. It has that same feel of pizazz that the films predecessor's had, which should instantly win over the skeptics.

Director F. Gary Gray "Straight Outta Compton" does a great job at continuing the saga in an undeniably charming and exciting way. Gray makes this film as sci-fi as possible. Some of the most dazzling parts of this film are the sets and action sequences. It may not be the best film in the series, but it is another successful film in the series.

The absence of Will Smith & Tommy Lee Jones is noted but reuniting are "Thor: Ragnarok" stars Chris Hemsworth & Tessa Thompson. Their chemistry in that film was strong and consistent. Those same characteristics can be said here in this film as well. Hemsworth is charming and Thompson is enthusiastic and smart. This duo is another win for audiences.

Some of the films problems however, stem from its mildly predictable plot and lack of an enticing story. It could have been better if the writers made it more interesting and worthwhile, but it's not 100 percent garbage when it comes to the writing and the films plot. Some of the things that improve these issues are the films eye popping visuals and action that is what fans of these films can expect from these films.

Scoring the film is returning composer Danny Elfman. Elfman, who scored the three original films, is back. He brings the sci-fi feel to sound and makes the score as upbeat and electrifying as possible. The film also has the now iconic theme from the original films and this film utilizes that theme in an exciting way.

The film may not be critically successful but it has won over fans, especially those who have an appetite for sci-fi films. This film is a buddy-buddy action flick and it is another successful entry into the "Men In Black" franchise. No neutralizer is necessary because this film is as entertaining as any films in the sci-fi genre can get.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)

For the past 8 years, audiences have gotten a quite mediocre "X-Men"  origins franchise. Now, after 3 films, comes the last film in the franchise. Though this film isn't perfect, it's still a better sequel than it's 2016 predecessor. This films got a much more interesting story too. It may not be as entertaining as other "X-Men" films, both of new and old blood.

I like how the film has a lot of action, which surpasses the previous film by a mile. Ever since the first film in the origin "X-Men" saga, these films have been hits and misses. Safe to say that I am glad and slightly disappointed that this is what calls as a franchise finale.

"Fox" should not have gotten rid of Bryan Singer. Singer, who directed the original "X-Men" films with the older versions of our favorite characters. He managed to pull of some of the best in the saga, but new director Simon Kinberg can only manage to do less than half than what Singer did, which is entertain. Kinberg does however manage to craft a very action-packed film. This is perhaps one of the more action packed films in the franchise.

On another note, this entry into the "X-Men" saga is perhaps the darkest installment in the series. This installment uses its somewhat sloppy narrative to entertain audiences but also show a dark side to it. The film's villain, played by Jessica Chastain, is one of their most sinister yet. Chastain is another element to what makes this a dark film.

By no means is the acting in this film praise worthy, but, this film does shine the spotlight on the "Dark Phoenix" Jean Grey, played by "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner. As it is in the name, this film is dark. Turner shines as the title character and is one of the best things about this film. She puts everything into this role and it shows.

This film can be a bit overdramatic at times though, despite its achievements. Jennifer Lawrence playing Mystique/Raven is one of the most overdramatic or melodramatic, actually, parts of this film. She did a really good job in the 2014 follow-up to "First Class", but it isn't a great one this time around.

Alongside Lawrence & Turner, are its leading mutants Professor X & Magneto played by James McAvoy & Michael Fassbender, respectively. The two give sub par performances but it's enough to satisfy. The one thing I wish I saw more of in this film, would be Magneto. That was disappoiting if I do say so.

He annouced after scoring "Batman vs. Superman" that he would no longer score superhero films. That man is Hans Zimmer. Zimmer who makes his "Marvel" debut scores an electric score that keeps the film energized to the max.

For 18 years in all, movie fans have come to love their favorite "X-Men" characters. Now that we're 8 years come and gone with the new young origin saga, this film is satisfying up to its abrupt and unsolved resolution ending. I expected more from this. But all that to say, this is another thrilling installment to the "X-Men" films despite some of it's noticeable flaws.

Rocketman (2019)

After last years Queen biopic, could this Elton John biopic follow in that same step as being a great film that tells the origin of an iconic singers beginnings? The short answer... Yes. I didn't think that this would top "Bohemian Rhapsody", but I am dead wrong. This film is extraordinary and is better than it by a long shot. Yeah, Rami Malek stunned audiences with his Freddie Murcury portrayal, but Taron Egerton's Elton John blows him out of the water. Two iconic singers, two amazing films. Once you see this Elton John biopic, you'll think that this does beat "Bohemian Rhapsody".

I said it with "Bohemian Rhapsody", I'll say it for this film, they couldn't find anyone else to play their main man. Taron Egerton (Kingsman) stuns audiences with his charisma, emotion and heart as the "Rocketman". His portrayal of one of the greatest singers of all time, is one you can't miss. I have no doubt that is his best performance of his career so far.

Director Dexter Fletcher who also directed the "Queen" biopic, takes on this film. Fletcher stuns audiences once more with yet another smash musical biopic. He holds no boundaries as this film is unpredictable and flaunts its flashiness in a comedic and colorful way.

Some of what Fletcher manages to pull off is perhaps the eloquently balance of flashbacks. On top of that, are the flamboyant costumes that perfectly capture the personality of Elton. Egerton pulls it off in a fun and intuitive manner. Audiences will enjoy this as it is as entertaining as its subject.

I'm okay with kissing in films, but sex isn't something I consider necessary in any film. Whether it be a straight couple or in this case a gay couple, I don't think it's really necessary for sex to be flaunted in this film. Granted that Elton John is gay and everyone knows it, I don't consider the film's sexual side entertaining whatsoever. Nevertheless, this is really the only thing I didn't like about the film.

Audiences first heard Egerton's singing voice in 2016's animated film "Sing", in which he coinsidentially sang "I'm Still Standing", one of Elton John's songs. He blew away audiences with that, now comes his talent on full display. He has an amazing singing voices and this film definitely showcases it in all it's glory.

I don't think that any film that has already told of a music legends background could ever top this. This film is beyond entertaining, it's imaginative and heartfelt. Beneath the glitz and glam of the iconic Sir Elton Hercules John aka Reginald Kenneth Dwight, is a tragic upbringing. I was shocked to say the least that this was how he grew up.

He's the Rocketman! This film is spectacular in that it's one of the most entertaining films this year. It's exciting and joyously irresistable. This film honors one of the greatest singers of all time in dazzeling fashion. What it manages to accomplish here is beyond exciting and without a doubt pleasing. It makes 2019 continue to be a year well spent at the movies. This film is certainly a one of a kind, that definitely doesn't go unnoticed.
